SQL Server is a relational database (RDBMS) that often comes with high licensing fees to
host an enterprise’s most important data. SQL Server also requires a significant amount
of work to set up and maintain, both for hardware (network, storage, OS patching,
configuration) and the software (configuration, updates).
The primary goal when migrating to Snowflake are to reduce the costs and operational burden of
running licensed OLAP database systems on-premises, in favor of a cloud native, pay-for-
what-you-use SaaS counterpart.
